BRIEF HISTORY

The College of Engineering (COE ) started as an adjunct department, the Engineering Department of the College of Industrial Technology and Engineering ( CITE ).

In June 1995, the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering were offered by the college (CITE ). These curricula were augmented and reinforced with actual shop works (hands-on) which are very vital and badly needed in our industry prior to the students’ employment.

The curricula were designed to be user’s friendly by ladderizing the programs. For the first three years (first ladder), the students should be graduated as “Associates “of the programs. The last two years (second ladder); the students should be graduated as
“Bachelors “ of the programs.

The first batch of graduates of the two programs was in the Academic-Year 1999-2000.

In June 2005, the department has expanded and offered Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering ( BSIE ) by virtue of Board of Trustees Resolution No. 359, series of 2004.

In June 2007, the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering ( BSCE ) was offered by virtue of Board of Trustees Resolution No.529, series 2007.

In June 2010, the Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering ( BSECE ) was added to the existing programs as per Board of Trustees Resolution No. 617, series 2009.

The added curriculum programs since 2005 namely, Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, and Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering follow the same philosophy as its predecessors.

When Cebu State College of Science and Technology was converted into what is now the Cebu Technological University ( CTU ) through Republic Act No. 9744 of 2009, the Engineering Department of CITE became the College of Engineering by virtue of Board of Regents Resolution No. 10, series of 2010.

College of Engineering is one of the five (5) Colleges of CTU. It was remained an important center of higher learning keeping pace with the University and the National Thrust.
