Dr. Herminio P. Navarro, a faculty member of the College of Engineering and a Prominent Citizen Representative in the Cebu Technological University (CTU) Board of Regents, received the highest national award from the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers(PSME) at the Don Tobias Marcelo Awards Night on October 21.
The award is based upon “the regular member’s eminent service rendered to the profession, society, communication and country” (Section 6.1.2 PSME Policy manual).
Engr. Navarro’s achievement may be seen as a way of honoring the university during the 64th PSME National convention on October 19 through 22 at SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
“PSME highlights the pursuit for scientific advancement and technological development to provide exciting, inspiring and world-changing solutions which transform lives and to prepare our PSME professionals for the regional integration and global competition by qualifying for the ASEAN and ACPE Registry,” Engr. Navarro said.
He had an excellent record in project management and leadership for 38 years in local, national and overseas industries.
He worked as Plant Maintenance Manager at Diamond Cane International Inc. for 17 years; Senior Technical Assistant in SES/3 Onshore and Offshore Equipment Maintenance Department at Brunei Shell Petroleum Co. for 14 years; and Economic Analysis Staff Engineer at Visayan Electric Co, Inc. for four years.
Engr. Navarro held various positions in the PSME-Mandaue Chapter and was chairman of the 3rd Visayas Regional Conference and the 2016 Mandaue Engineering Week.
He is an accredited Pollution Control Officer (COA-258) by the Environmental Management Bureau of Region 7 and a member of the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines (PCAP7) and the Safety Organization of the Philippines Inc. (SOPI).
He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Visayas with the degree,Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He topped the Board Exam for CPM in November 1975 as well as the Board Exam for MEs in February 1976.
He is a Doctor in Philosophy in Technology Management (Ph. D T.M) candidate at the Cebu Technological University. (UPO)
