Free tuition in SUCs—CTU gets highest budget

Cebu Technological University President Rosein A. Ancheta Jr. reiterated the grant of free tuition in state universities and colleges (SUCs) on Monday, April 24, particularly stressing on the highest budget ceiling the university is given.

During his inspirational talk in one of the university-sponsored seminars in CTU Danao, he mentioned the The Philippine Star April 23 issue confirming P8 billion in the 2017 budget to fulfill the present administration’s promise of “no-college-tuition policy” to the country’s thousands of students enrolled in SUCs.

The article by Janvic Mateo also capitalized on P379.192 million for CTU followed by P367.872 million for the University of the Philippines (UP) System, covering 2017 to 2018.

Limitation, however, will not allow all students to avail of the grant unless he or she is found eligible based on the guidelines prepared by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

Dr. Ancheta relayed the news to the faculty from CTU’s 20 campuses, implying that much needs to be done to cater to the needs of those who are qualified to enrol at CTU.   UPO
