Rusty Villadolid Lapus, 21, delivered the “expected” upshot as he took 6th place in the 2017 Civil Engineering Licensure Examination (CELE) per Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) result released on Thursday, May 11.
With an average rating of 92.85%, he was the lone representative from Visayas who made it to the top 10 among the 2, 514 passers out of 6, 998.
A regional quiz show champion, Lapus brought honor to Cebu Technological University (Main) despite the death of his father last year, which would have been a major deterrent to anyone preparing for the board exam. But patience and hard work proved huge factors toward bringing pride to his family and his place, Toledo.
As the sixth sibling among ten, he had earned the degree in March this year, that is first in the family, along with the cum laude award.
College of Engineering (COE) Dean Nolasco K. Malabago, who has anticipated for the topnotch finish, could not help but mention why Lapus received such an honor: “He really deserves (it) because of his outstanding skills and knowledge.”
Spending hours with some of previous Philippine Institute of Civil Engineering (PICE) quiz champions, who graduated from CTU and topped the board as well every time a competition popped, Lapus was no stranger to the kind of environment that demanded focus and acuteness of behavior to win battles.
Civil Engineering(CE) Department Chair Jeonel Lumbab, who coached Lapus’ team at regionals, had seen in him the hardwork, dedication and determination to achieve his dream. Engr. Lumbab was grateful that he and the rest of the takers from the Main Campus made it to the list of passers.
The 100 percent performance and a spot in the coveted bracket are, by far, outstanding achievements in the second quarter this year for COE. UPO
