Wednesday marked tip-off for Cebu Technological University’s Triangular Meet , finding out deserving contenders for the Regional SCUAA Games on December 11 through 14 at BISU Calape.
Early wins came from table tennis, badminton, baseball, softball, sepak takraw, basketball, and athletics on the first day.
University Sports Director Nemia Zamora said a majority of winners from last year’s tri-meet emerged headstrong in defending titles.
CTU Danao remained unperturbed in sepak takraw (men) while CTU Main stayed focused to win the women division despite having equally aggressive teams from the north and south (for the first time this year).
Baseball, softball and futsal continued to be the stronghold of CTU Carmen,CTU Tuburan, and CTU Main, making their best record thus far.
Campuses in Argao and Tuburan would share the brunt of volleyball enthusiasts in the region, as each won in men and women divisions respectively.
An interesting turnout in basketball (men) went to CTU Main team, whose ticket to the regionals is no longer inhibited by the dominating force of the consistent winner (except this year) from CTU Danao.
The northern footballers and chess players also lost to the other two cells this year.
Selection happened in some events like table tennis which would include a CTU Moalboal player in the CTU Danao roster.Same is true in badminton where a dynamic mix is definitely expected.
More for the central cell were added from boxing yielding 10 topnotch fights in more than ten categories such as lightweight, bantamweight, heavyweight, featherweight, welterweight and so on.
Athletics had chosen 33 individuals : 15, 11, and 8 from north, central and south cells.
Nothing could be asked from all players except genuine persistence to bag gold in the forthcoming event with NIR delegates this time.
Dr. Zamora aims at getting the best who would raise the university’s banner at regionals before the year ends. RM
