LEAR 2017 Innovation Olympics hails CTU as champion

Another pride and victory of Cebu Technological University Main Electronics Engineering Team was added after grabbing the most coveted title, the champion at the 4th LEAR Innovation Olympics on November 17.

The ECE Team presented and defended  their research entry, “SMS and Image Emergency Alarm System for Crime-related Incidents in Taxicabs Using Internet of Things.”

Their research output focused on preventing worse incidents through sending information to authorized personnel using automatic vehicle incident, tracking and cloud data-logging device using GSM, GPS and IoT module.

Student-researchers who formed part of the ECE Team were Adrian Melgo, Ailyn Ompad, and Sarcon Maison Jr. with the support of Engr. Maria Gemel Palconit, adviser.

“We have been fortunate to receive this kind of recognition. This award is the result of the team’s hardwork and sacrifice,” Engr. Palconit said. She also mentioned that the students really deserved such an accolade because of their dedication and commitment in bringing honor to the university.

“This is just the beginning. A lot more competitions to face,” she added.

A hefty  $2 500 (Php 125,000) was given to the team.  Other winners included Cebu Institute of Technology-University which won the 1st runner up and consolation award.

LEAR Innovation Olympics is an annual activity of Lear Corporation to recognize innovative talents of engineering students in the field of research. KML
