Boxing clinches gold medals for Central Visayas

Santiago Ociones Jr. of Bohol Island State University (BISU) pins opponent for a hard punch to secure a gold win on February 23.

Central Visayas earned two more gold medals at the event’s culmination early this morning for the National SCUAA Games 2018.

Santiago Ociones Jr. of Bohol Island State University (BISU) and Enrique Layan of Siquijor State College (SSC) battled the last few rounds at the Binirayan plaza, combining straight jabs and uppercuts to win the matches.

Ociones, confident about his style, rained strong punches on the opponent each time he got in the corner.

Not giving an inch to counterattacks, he ended the match with the crowd cheering for a unanimous decision.

Spectators anticipated for the win especially in Layan’s bout, where fighting at 75 kilograms seemed easy and fluid.

Meanwhile, Mark Dennis Aguilar of Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) added a silver after losing at the final round today despite ending yesterday’s game with a knockout victory.

Over all, region 7 ranked third, etching the best record thus far. ICPA
