Basking in the heat, region 7 athletes delivered 65 medals—-13 [gold], 21 [silver], and 31 [bronze] from 22 events, qualifying the 5th spot among 16 regions competing in the 6-day national games by the State Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (SCUAA) in Antique last week.
Top four teams were National Capital Region (NCR) with 269 medals (165 G, 59 S, 45 B); Region 3 (Central Luzon) with 238 (83 G, 71 S, 84 B); Region 6 [host] with 148 (40 G, 38 S, 70 B) and Region 4 (Southern Tagalog) with 109 (17 G, 44 S, 48 B).
CTU Sports Director Nemia Zamora, in an interview, shared one of the main principles she and the other regional sports directors adhered to.
“Selection process played the biggest part during the game. We really stick to those athletes who really deserve to play at the nationals. We already learned from the previous R7 performance.”
Dr. Zamora also commended the athletes who did their best toward reaching the goals and the Central Visayas SUCs.
This year’s R7 delegation totalled 381 athletes from CTU, CNU, BISU, NORSU, and SSC. KML
