“Growing the Cebu innovation ecosystem by democratizing access to new technologies”, as  Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Asst. Regional Director Nanette Arbon posted on her facebook account, has proved quite a job for  Cebu Technological University with the launching of its  newest fablab  in  CTU Danao  on September 17.

Partnership with DTI has allowed for CTU’s engagement with local business ventures through makerspaces  in its sprawling campuses  in the province.

Dir. Arbon’s post  also highlighted her agency’s turnover of a machine that “prints on sinamay and other textiles using indigenous fibers  in CTU Carmen and embroidery machines for CTU Argao’s Hablon de Cebu.”

The need to extend to the community, especially to MSMEs, through product and package designs was clearly streamlined in the MOA  between DTI and CTU signed on the same day, supporting OIC Provincial Director Esperanza Melgar’s view, at the ceremony, of product prototype targets from the clients to ensure the facility’s productivity.

Orientation workshop with trainers from  Bohol and  CTU Tuburan was also conducted in the afternoon for goal optimization. Christine Omela Villanueva/UICP
