THE Mechatronics and Robotics Society of the Philippines (MRSP) has finally put up its first provincial chapter in the Visayas.
Dr. Joseph Pepito, who is officer-in-charge (OIC) campus director of the Cebu Technological University (CTU) Main, assumed office as president of MRSP Cebu after its launching on May 9 at CTU Main. He spoke in an interview of having chapters in every region and fulfill the initial goal of holding technical trainings in relation to automation.
Prior to the launching, the “Seminar on Mechatronics and Robotics Technology” was held, where CTU President Rosein Ancheta Jr. in his speech posed a challenge to the participants about the need for CTU to cope with Industry 4.0.
The chapter allows members to share resources in terms of automation in both mechatronics and robotics activities. “We will be kept updated on the technologies nowadays through this organization. Experts from … other chapters can also share their ideas with us. Students can also benefit from the creation [of the chapter] since the MRSP national will be holding competitions … ,” Dr. Pepito said.
To date, MRSP Cebu has 123 members mostly composed of university faculty. It is open to all professionals from industry and other academic institutions both private and public tertiary education. The engineering and technology faculty are encouraged to join, according to Dr. Pepito.
He added that: “Temporarily, the office of the MRSP Cebu will be in CTU. Our university president welcomes this program considering we have BS Mechatronics program. There is a possibility that the office will be permanent in CTU, being the first institution to launch the chapter.” CTU MAIN-UPO
