SCUAA cancels regionals, postpones nationals amid coronavirus outbreak

The State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) had no other option but to cancel the regional games and reschedule the nationals, maybe sometime in April, as agreed in a meeting last month, prioritizing countermeasures to the novel corona virus (COVID-19) that has since been a global threat.

Originally set on February 8 through 13, the regional tourney had SCUAA delegates unpacking, following the reports on confirmed cases in Dumaguete.

Event host Negro Oriental State University stepped back from such a responsibility to favor the city’s preventive strategy.

The mandate is consistent with the World Health Organization (WHO) declaration to secure citizens in the climate of “public health emergency.”

SCUAA officials and SUC representatives have yet to reach a date for national games supposedly taking place in March at Bicol State University, after Bicol Regional Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council raised blue alert status, while probing three COVID-19 patients in Albay. Ale Taneo
