CANTUFA, CTU Danao eye VCO innovation to “empower communities”

Campus Director Rose Mary Almacen (C) sign an agreement with CANTUFA through former University Professor Corazon Macachor (R)  on September 13th.

CTU Danao and Cantumog Farmers Association (CANTUFA) teamed up  for the project: “Development of Empowered Communities in Cantumog, Carmen, Cebu through S&T support in the Processing of Virgin Coconut Oil and Coconut-derived Health Care Products and Native Agri-Food Commodities.”

Gender responsiveness and technology interventions were some of the project’s primary goals.

The association, through former University Professor Corazon Macachor, partnered with CTU Danao to adopt IPOPHL-registered coconut fruit technology products like coconut water-treated kench cured sardines, virgin coconut oil-based Acapulco bath soap, and coconut bread.

In response,  the northern campus  facilitated the release of Php 1.5 million from the Community Empowerment for Science and Technology (CEST) Program of DOST Region 7 for the purchase of  equipment  stipulated in the proposal.

CANTUFA has been one of  the campus’ technology adopters since 2017.

Moreover, Dr. Macachor  currently joins the part-time Graduate School faculty at CTU Danao. /Sarah Jane Colina/ICPA Danao
