Cebu Technological University received a recognition for bagging the Level 1 for commitment to Quality Management under the Philippine Quality Award (PQA) Regionalization Program for PQA Conferment Ceremony held on March 23, 2022.
The institution was blessed enough to have joined and completed the pilot run in becoming a recipient of the PQA Regionalization Program and obtaining an Award.
The University received the Level 1 recognition for Commitment to Quality Management presented by Blesila A. Lantayona, undersecretary of Regional Operations Group.
Dr Adrian Ybañez, Vice President for Research and Development, received the award on behalf of the University President, Dr Rosein A. Ancheta Jr.
In his brief speech, he said that quality is vital in an organization like CTU because “it influences the branding of our University, and it ensures that our stakeholders’ expectations are properly met.”
However, it was not an easy journey—Dr. Ybañez also said, “Attaining PQA is indeed challenging, but we believe it is helping our organization become better service providers to our clients according to international standards.”
Moreover, he said that CTU aims to become globally competitive, and PQA has played a significant role in dissecting its organizational strengths and looking into areas that need further development and improvement.
The PQA is the nation’s highest recognition for outstanding organizational performance. It is equivalent to the highly regarded Baldrige Performance Excellence Program in the United States and other National Quality Awards throughout the country.
The Award, established by former President Fidel V. Ramos’ Executive Order No. 448 on October 3, 1997, is given to institutions in the private and public sectors that perform best in quality, productivity, and business performance.
Based on outcomes, including customer satisfaction. It is not an award for the product or services quality but a quality management system based on constant improvement in the delivery of products and services. It satisfies and responds to the customers’ needs and requirements.
For the first time in PQA history, they gave regional-level recognitions to fourteen organizations to further promote quality culture in the country.
Thus, they bring excellence closer to these organizations through the PQA Regionalization Program. Cebu Technological University is one of those gems just waiting to be polished to shine. –Imaculate Grace Negre
