CTU professor wins first place in DOST 7th National Research Conference

certificate received by Dr. Sylvester Cortes

Dr. Sylvester Tan Cortes, Pure Sciences Department Chair of the Cebu Technological University Main Campus, won the “First Place” as the Best Research Presenter at the 7th National Research Conference in Science and Mathematics Education 2021 via Zoom on November 10-12, 2021.

Dr. Cortes’ dissertation entitled “A Professional Development Program on Designing Classroom Action Research Projects for Science Teachers” was among the research papers in the oral presentation category submitted to the NCGSME and other 16 different universities in the Philippines.

In a virtual interview, Dr. Cortes exclaimed that participating in this research conference, which was solely exclusive to DOST Graduate Scholars, was comparable to “swimming with the big fishes”. After hours of deliberation and unending queries by the judges, he did not expect to bag the place. He added that his paper’s theme aims to empower teachers and allow them to grow professionally.

The National Consortium hosted the annual research conference in Graduate Science and Mathematics Education (NCGSME) in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology Science Education Institute (DOST SEI).-Jessa Mahinay BSDC Intern
