The Office of the Vice President for Research and Development held a scientific publication writing workshop on May 11-13, 2022 at Cebu Technological University Danao facility centrum in Sabang, Danao City, Cebu.
On the morning of Day 1, May 11, the opening ceremony started with the statement of purpose from Dr. Jonathan Maglasang, the director for scientific publication. He emphasized the need to familiarize the elements of scientific writing as a guide in writing journal articles as he provided detailed input on how to write a scientific paper.
Correspondingly, Dr. Adrian P. Ybañez, the vice president for research and development, highlighted the importance of research for personal and professional development through research and publication. He also discussed with enthusiasm as he provided guidelines on how to write the title, introduction, and review of related literature to the participants. His robust commitment to quality manuscripts to be published in CTU’s Journal for Agriculture, Technology and Development (JATM) encouraged the attendees to finish their journal articles for submission as an output of the three-day writing workshop.
The afternoon session continued with the expert input of Dr. Adrian P. Ybañez vis a vis mentoring and discussion among the participants.
On the other hand, Dr. Cristie Ann Jaca, the Managing Editor of JATM, talks about writing the method section of a scientific article and its importance to the researcher and the readers. She gave a short review on research designs and explained that the “Method” section of the article that articulates what the researcher did and how it was done.
On the second day of the writing workshop, Dr. Adrian P. Ybañez extended his comprehensive discussion on writing the results and discussion part of the paper for publication and capped the presentation with the making of the conclusion.
The afternoon session made all participants glued up to their laptops as they applied the concepts and guidelines provided in their manuscripts. This continued until the morning of the third day.
The three-day scientific writing workshop paved the way for future CTU professors to recalibrate their writing skills to have a publication-ready manuscript. –Cristie Ann Jaca/CCMR
