CTU commemorates the 124th Philippine Independence Day

The Cebu Technological University-Main Campus Key Officials, faculty, and non-teaching personnel commemorate the 124th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence held at the CTU campus ground on June 13, 2022, with the theme “Kalayaan 2022: Pagsuong sa Hamon ng Panibagong Bukas” (Rise Towards the Challenge of a New Beginning).

The celebration commenced with the entrance of colors headed by Dr. Jerlito Letrondo, Vice-President for Admin and Finance; Dr. Hedeliza Pineda, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Joseph Pepito, Campus Director; and Prof. Romeo Montecillo, Assistant Campus Director, along with the various College Deans and ROTC alumni who were the flag bearers.

A moment of silence took the event in a while for the Panalangin (prayer) led by Dr. Imelda V. Villarin, the Campus Dean of Instruction, and Prof. Montecillo, who was followed by  Dr. Pepito, who conveyed the Opening Remarks.

The ceremonial raising of the CTU flag and ASEAN flag was accompanied by the ROTC alumni headed by Dr. Jana Gloria Almerino, Supervising Administrative Officer (HRMO IV); Prof. Irvin Narsico, Dean of Students Affairs and Mrs. Morena E. Carlos, University Librarian.

Furthermore, Dr. Nemia Zamora, Sports University Director, showcased her fluency in the Tagalog dialect by expressing the “Ang Talumpati ng Watawat.”

Moreover, with the Philippine flag’s ceremonial raising, Prof. Francisco Lucero, University Director for Cultural and Affairs, conducted the CTU Chorister singing the National Anthem. 

Thereafter, Dr. Catherine Ross D. Degula, Admissions Officer, stated the “Ang Panunumpa sa Watawat”, which was being followed by Dr. Letrondo, who entertained the crowd of CTU workers with his Poetry Recital Jose Rizal’s “Katapusang Panamilit” that had put the giggling smile on the faces of everyone.

Near the end of the event, the selected faculty showcased their skills with poetry, dance, and singing.

Dr. Hubert Quiñonez, Asso. Dean of the College of Management & Entrepreneurship (CME); Dr. Joseph Barawidan, CCICT Faculty, Campus Sports Director; Dr. Raymund C. Espina, Asso. Dean of the College of  Education (COEd) became a poet for their recital performance of “Pag-ibig sa Tinubuang Lupa”, authored by Andres Bonifacio.

Also, another poetry recital was performed by Dr. Ronald Galindo, Dean of the College of Engineering; Dr. Ernyl Onrejas, Faculty, College of Technology; and Dr. Regina Galigao, Faculty of the Graduate School, with Jose Rizal’s poetry entitled “To the Philippines.”

Furthermore, the Physical Education Faculty performed a dance drama collab with Prof. Ann Frances Cabigon, Chairperson of CTU Chorister, singing “Ang Bayan Kong Pilipinas”, who never failed to amaze the crowd.

To conclude the event, the Key Officials, faculty, and non-teaching personnel gathered on the ground singing the “Pilipinas kong Mahal” while waving the handy small Philippine flag commemorating the Philippines ‘Araw ng Kasarinlan’, or ‘Day of Freedom.’
