Dr. Fitzgerald C. Kintanar, Dean of the College of Education (COEd) of Cebu Technological University-Argao Campus (CTU-AC), presented the accepted abstract on research for sustainability, entitled: “Pre-Service Teachers’ Awareness of Sustainable Development Goals: Dissemination Strategies for Equitable and Sustainable Learning Spaces and Learning Environments” at the Inter-Regional Research Symposium, spearheaded by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Higher Education and Development (SEAMEO-RIHED), held at the Asia Hotel Bangkok, Thailand on Nov. 24-25, 2022.
The research presented was taken from the student research led by Ms. Marichu Abregana and was enhanced by the CoEd Faculty – Dr. Fitzgerald C. Kintanar, Dr. Suzette T. Elladora, Dr. Virginia S. Albarracin and Dr. Lemuel Velasco. The said research deals with Pre-service Teachers’ Awareness on Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr. Kintanar successfully delivered the inputs of the collaborated research on the first day of the symposium, November 24. Despite the thorough preparations, he braced himself for the worst; yet the presentation went very well and the questions asked were answered comprehensively.
“It was a rich learning experience for me sharing our research in the college of education being presented in an international arena. Collaboration and engagements were established to help us out in implementing relevant practices on sustainability,” said Dr. Kintanar when asked about his experience in the symposium via Facebook messenger. “…There are still a lot of things to do for our university as far as sustainability practices are concerned. But we are really on the right track. The university has started to implement sustainability practices,” he added.
He additionally stated that the convention extremely benefited COEd and CTU-Argao as international links are necessary for higher levels of accreditation; by establishing internationalization activities for the college and university, we can build a solid reputation and foster relevant programs for high-quality instruction, research, and community engagement and his participation will surely open doors of limitless opportunities for the university to improve existing activities for sustainability.
The symposium was also attended by other members of the ASEAN network, and Dr. Kintanar proudly wore the CTU’s Hinablon sa Cebu as formal wear the entire time.
