Last November 28 and 29, 2022, the trainer-experts in Cebu Technological University-Tuburan Campus and Danao Campus conducted a two-day skills training on “Meat Processing” as a livelihood project of the members of the association of Nagkahi-usang Kababayenhan sa Kabangkalan in Barangay Kabangkalan, Tuburan Cebu held at Shared Service Facility- Food Innovation Center (SSF-FIC) CTU Tuburan Campus.
The said training is part of the SLP (Sustainable Livelihood Program) Design of the Local Government Unit that identifies several associations from different barangays of Tuburan who will become the recipients of the said program given that these associations have members identified as poor households in the Listahan survey.
Furthermore, the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development chose the Municipality of Tuburan as one of the recipients of the Office of the President Referral with budget allocation anchored on the MC22 Guidelines of the SLP Program.
The Day 1, morning session started with a statement of purpose and leveling of expectations while in the afternoon session was the start of Technology demonstration which was performed by Prof. Alona M. Ordoña and Sahun Lorenz T. Radan afterwards return-demonstration of pork tocino was done. For the skinless pork longganiza, it was demonstrated by Ms. Maribel V. Ramos.
The Day 2 morning was a continuation of the demo and return demo of pork siomai and pork embutido led by Ms. Maribel V. Ramos and Prof. Alona M. Ordoña while in the afternoon session, product costing and impressions were comprehensively shared.
The capacity trainers explicitly presented a well-organized and impressive demonstration on the following tech transfer of the four (4) meat processing such as pork tocino, skinless pork longganiza, pork siomai, and pork embutido.
Mixed emotions were felt by the trainees as they ended their training not only learning the transferable skills but also, friendship and collaboration strengthened.
“To continue on this endeavor, sincerity, and commitment must be upheld as this helps towards the production and your association,” Dr. Felix Costan concluded.
