To empower the Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL), the Cebu Technological University in collaboration with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) – Region 7 led by JCINSP Roberto Crisanto Alpon III, and Cebu City Government represented by Atty. Homer Mariano Cabaral, Resident Ombudsman conducted the opening ceremony of the Skills, Attitude, Knowledge, for Productive Individuals (SAKPI) program – Phase 8 on January 25, 2024 at Cebu City Jail-Annex.
Dr. Denilin B. Avila, the SAKPI Project leader discussed the program’s core objective: to furnish PDLs with indispensable skills. Beyond personal growth, the program aspires to arm them with skills that promise sustainable opportunities upon their release. The kickoff included a detailed schedule, with Bread and Pastry Production training slated for January 25-27, 2024, followed by meat processing training on January 29-31, 2024.
During the six days of intensive skills training, Dr. Joseph C. Pepito, the University President, voiced unwavering support for the program. He affirmed the university’s commitment to championing initiatives that benefit PDLs, emphasizing an ongoing dedication to supporting such impactful programs.
The training sessions were curated by experts and encompassed a diverse array of phases tailored to cater to the varied interests of the beneficiaries. It also included the training for product packaging, labeling, and costing.
The collaborative efforts of CTU, BJMP Cebu City Jail-Annex, and the Cebu City Government underscore a shared vision to provide a holistic and comprehensive learning experience. This innovative approach aims not only to meet but to surpass the practical needs of the SAKPI program beneficiaries, fostering a positive and transformative impact on their lives.
