In a significant stride towards the upliftment of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) in the region, the Cebu Technology University (CTU) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Regional Welfare and Development Division (RWDD) Region VII took center stage during a coordination meeting convened at the President’s Office on January 16, 2024.
The esteemed BJMP personnel, led by JSINSP Maricel Mijares, Assistant Chief of RWDD, alongside JO1 Jezer Rae Rodriguez and JO1 Deodennis Arcilla, paid a visit to Dr. Joseph Cutab Pepito, the University President. The meeting served as a platform to reinforce the commitment to the existing Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), inked in October 2023. President Pepito, expressing unwavering support, welcomed the continued collaboration aimed at the welfare of PDL.
One notable highlight of the gathering was the comprehensive update on the progress of the Center for Innovation in Education Behind Bars (CIEBB) program. Dr. Denilin Avila, a member of the Board of Regents and the SAKPI project Leader, shed light on the program’s multifaceted approach, encompassing technical and vocational training, as well as tertiary education provisions for PDL.
President Pepito enthusiastically endorsed these initiatives, emphasizing the pivotal role education plays in the rehabilitation and reintegration of individuals within the justice system. The commitment to fostering positive change through educational empowerment was palpable throughout the discussions.
