On August 12, 2024, Cebu Technological University (CTU) was recognized by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Regional VII for its exceptional role in rehabilitating Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) through its Skills, Attitude, and Knowledge for a Productive Individual (SAKPI) program. The Plaque of Appreciation was presented during BJMPโs 33rd Anniversary celebration at the Cebu Ocean Park Grand Ballroom II, SM Seaside. It was received by Dr. Joseph C. Pepito, the University President and the Project Leader.
Dr. Pepito emphasized the SAKPI program as a key community service initiative by CTU, aimed at equipping PDLs with the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to reintegrate into society. This program not only helps reduce recidivism but also contributes to the community by preparing PDLs for productive lives post-release. The SAKPI program’s comprehensive approach includes vocational training, attitude development, and knowledge expansion. It also enhances experiential learning for CTU students and strengthens the university’s commitment to social responsibility. He highlighted a broader impact of the program, which fosters community among PDLs and supports the local economy by preparing former inmates to become active, contributing members of society. Additionally, the program’s educational components, which include technology and academic topics, broaden the PDLs’ perspectives and prepare them for future opportunities.
Dr. Pepito said, โBy investing in the rehabilitation and reintegration of incarcerated individuals, this partnership represents a meaningful step forward to a more just, inclusive, and equitable society.” The recognition of CTUโs SAKPI program by BJMP Regional VII highlighted the university’s significant contribution to the rehabilitation and reintegration of PDLs. As CTU continues to promote social responsibility, a more just, inclusive, and equitable society of PDLs with a broader community through the SAKPI program.
