The Government Financial Management Innovators Circle (GFMIC), Inc. inaugurated its “Conference of Information Technology (IT) Professionals in Government” at Cebu Technological University (CTU)-Main Campus Gymnatorium in Cebu, City. The two-day event, running from August 12 to 13, 2024, has the theme โEnabling Digital Transformation in Government: Capacitating IT Professionals.โ It aims to enhance the capabilities of IT professionals across government sectors as part of a broader initiative to enable digital transformation within the public sector.
Dr. Joseph C. Pepito, CTU President, delivered a welcome message, setting a positive tone for the conference. Ms. Ma. Lourdes V. Dedal, President of GFMIC, Inc. started the conference with opening remarks.
Engr. Frederick DC. Amores Regional Director, Dept. of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) Region 7 discussed the digital competency framework for awareness in strengthening the IT institutional structure in the government to improve their computer abilities and remain relevant in the digital age. Ms. Carmela S. Perez, DBA, Professional Lecturer, UP presented the role of government IT professionals in digital transformation.
The afternoon session, moderated by Ms. Aida C. Yuvienco, GFMIC Press Relation Officer, featured a panel discussion with Engr. Amores and Engr. George P. Tardio, the Chief of the Critical Infrastructure of Evaluation and Cybersecurity Standards Monitoring Division Cyber Security Bureau, DICT. Mr. Juan Philip S. Evangelista from the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), and Ms. Prolaine Dela Calzada-Daclan from the Civil Service Commission (CSC), addressing the difficulties faced by IT professionals in the public sector. Followed by Engr. Tardio, who discussed the Cybersecurity fundamentals.
The first day of the conference featured several technical sessions focusing on key topics relevant to IT professionals in government. The conference highlighted the need for enhanced digital skills and strong cybersecurity in the public sector. It highlighted the importance of empowering them to drive digital transformation within government institutions.
