Several faculty members from the College of Agriculture, Food Science, Agribusiness and Development Communication (CAFBC) and graduate students of CTU Barili participated in the 2nd Regional Convention of Philippine Association of Agriculturist, Inc. (PAA) Central Visayas โ Zea Mays Chapter on September 18-20 at Tagbilaran, Bohol.
Dr. Pet Roey L. Pascual, one of the faculty members, served as a resource person during the event, where he discussed the universities’ and colleges’ critical role in enhancing agriculture and their vital role in educating the next generation of agricultural professionals. His topic also highlighted the research and extension conducted by academic institutions and how these play a critical role in advancing the agriculture sector in the region.
Mr. Audie L. Cherry, a US Fulbright grantee working with CTU Barili campus for a 9-month Fulbright program, also served as a resource person where he tackled the youths’ role in the future of agriculture. Mr. Cherry emphasized providing opportunities for the youth to engage in agriculture and believed in the potential of the youth as leaders in the future.
The Fulbright Program is a prestigious international educational exchange initiative funded by the U.S. government.
The event also featured a poster presentation where the graduate students and some faculty displayed their research outputs. Dr. Marciano D. Tangpos, a CAFBC faculty member, secured the 3rdplace for best paper presentation with his research entitled โStorage temperature and water-soluble chitosan (WSC) on post-harvest characteristics and chemical analysis of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.)
This yearโs regional convention features the theme: Empowering Farmers and Youth through Agricultural Innovations and Technology Advancements for Future Generations.
