Development Academy of the Philippines Graduate School of Public and Development Management (DAP-GSPDM) in collaboration with Cebu Technological University, led a regional caravan entitled, “SDG Regional Caravan on Future-Ready Philippines: Integrating Smart City Strategies, Commercial Building Landscape Embedding Technological Advancement, and Resilient Tourism,” yesterday, September 2, 2024, at CebuTech Gymnasium, CTU-Main. University President, Dr. Joseph C. Pepito, said in his welcome message, “One of the significant outcomes we envision for this gathering is the establishment of a data analytics and visualization portal that will serve as the cornerstone for both national and local development by empowering our policymakers, planners, and stakeholders with the insights needed to make an informed decision that drives progress and development.”
Dr. Cristie Ann L. Jaca, University Director for Information, Communication and Public Affairs (ICPA), was the facilitator, focal person, and host of the activity. Before the start of the event, the DAP-GSPDM team paid a courtesy call visit to the Cebu Provincial Governorโs office and afterward, with the CTU’s University Presidentโs office.
During the discourse, Dr. Lizan E. Perante-Calina, Dean, DAP-GSPDM presented the rationale of the SDG Caravan. Ms. Hannah M. Gonzalez, DAP-GSPDM Research Fellow, discussed her paper about the commercial and retail development landscapes. The importance of science, technology, and innovation in the development of economies was stressed by Dr. Filemon A. Uriarte, Jr., Research Fellow at DAP-GSPDM. Professor Rafael April S. Rivera, DAP-GSPDM Research Fellow, provided an overview of the concept of Smart Cities in the Philippines. Another speaker, Dr. Monina M. Buccat, Research Fellow, DAP-GSPDM, talked about sustainable development goals focusing on tourism.
After the presentation, the event had an open discussion wherein students, faculty, and other participants interacted with the key speakers about the topics. During the awarding of certificates, Dr. Jaca received the Certificate of Recognition and Token of Appreciation from DAP-GSPDM on behalf of Dr. Joseph Pepito. In her synthesis and closing remarks, Dr. Ma. Oliva Z. Domingo, Supervising Fellow, DAP-GSPDM, emphasized the importance of oneโs contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
