On October 10-11, 2024, Cebu Technological Universityโ€™s Vice President for Academic Affairs, together with the College of Education faculty members, actively engaged in the 53rd National and 14th International PAFTE Convention. The academic gathering carries the theme, โ€œTowards New Directions in Teacher Education: Adapting to a Changing Landscape.”

The two-day activity of the Philippine Association for Teachers and Educators (PAFTE) took place at Madame Laureana Rosales Theater, Academic Bldg., and via online meeting. The 6th floor of Capitol University, Cagayan de Oro was jam-packed with distinguished speakers, dedicated teachers, and researchers. The Secretary of the Department of Education, Hon. Juan Edgardo M. Angara took part in the event as the Keynote Speaker, who imparted relevant insights and timely information on the latest initiatives in improving teacher quality in the country. The discourse at the convention focused on the awareness of new policies and innovative strategies that can empower educators to effectively respond to the challenges posed by globalization leading to improved educational outcomes.

Dr. Jennie V. Jocson, Executive Director V, Teacher Education Council Secretariat, presented keypoints of the R.A. 11713 which is โ€œAn Act Further Strengthening Teacher Education in the Philippines by Enhancing the Education Council, Establishing a scholarship Program for Students in the Teacher Education Program, Institutionalizing the National Educatorsโ€™ Academy of the Philippines, and Appropriating Funds Therefor, Amending for the Purpose Republic Act No. 7784, entitled โ€œAn Act to Strengthen Teacher Education in the Philippines by Establishing Centers of Excellence, Creating a Teacher Education Council for the Purpose, Appropriating Funds Therefor, and for Other Purposes.โ€

The gathering highlights the need for teachers and educators to adapt their teaching practices to the changing needs and diverse educational contexts, particularly in light of technological advancements and globalization. Moreover, the convention serves as a reminder of the broader implications of teacher education on societal development. As educators adapt to new teaching landscapes, they also play a vital role in nurturing students who are adept at thriving in an increasingly interconnected world.
