CTU Danao Student Organizations make history as first to join Clubs for UNESCO Philippines across all campuses

Five student organizations from Cebu Technological University Danao Campus have qualified to become official members of Clubs for UNESCO Philippines for 2024. This significant milestone marks the first time any student organizations across all CTU campuses have successfully completed the rigorous membership application process.

The organizations that have earned this distinction includes the Supreme Student Government (SSG), Future Scientists and Technology Leaders of the Philippines (FSTLP), English Language and Literature Enthusiasts (ELLITE), Science Educators for Excellence and Development (SEED), and Mobius Pirates. These groups underwent a challenging four-level interview process, prepared relevant documents for UNESCO membership requirements which demonstrates their commitment and readiness to contribute to UNESCO’s mission of promoting peace, education, and cultural understanding. The success of these organizations was made possible through the guidance of their respective organization advisers: Engr. Donald Lalican, Dr. Romel Mutya, Prof. Ronnel Victor Kilat and Dr. Gerly Alcantara.

Dr. Rosemary L. Almacen, the Vice President for Student Affairs, has played a significant role in this achievement. Her leadership and advocacy for student engagement have created an environment that encourages organizations to pursue membership and actively participate in global initiatives. “This accomplishment is not just a win for the individual organizations but a proud moment for CTU as a whole,” Dr. Almacen stated. “It highlights our students’ dedication to promote a culturally rich and educationally inclusive community.”

Dr. Sarah Jane Colina, the Student Development Director, has also been instrumental in guiding the organizations through the application process. Her encouragement and support have motivated many students to seize this opportunity. “I believe that being part of Clubs for UNESCO will empower our student organizations to make a significant impact both locally and globally,” Dr. Colina remarked.

As part of their new membership, the qualified organizations are invited to participate in the upcoming International Assembly of Youth for UNESCO (Y4U), scheduled for November 29 to December 1, 2024, at the Citystate Asturias Hotel in Palawan, Puerto Princesa City, Philippines. This assembly will provide a platform for students to connect with their peers, share ideas, and collaborate on initiatives aligned with UNESCO’s goals.
This impressive achievement sets a precedent for future student organizations at CTU and underscores the university’s commitment to nurturing leaders who are equipped to address global challenges through education and cultural exchange.
