The Cebu Technological University – Barili Campus, in partnership with the Barangay Council of
Kalubihan, successfully conducted the Microbial Composting Training and Memorandum of
Agreement (MOA) Signing today at the campus grounds. The event, which commenced at 9:00
AM, brought together farmers and Barangay Officials from Brgy. Kalubihan alongside the
dedicated volunteers of Subang – Cebu Technological University Chapter.

Spearheaded by the Resource Generation Office (RGO) under the leadership of Dr. Danny E.
Carabio and Subang – Cebu Technological University Chapter, headed by President Peter John
C. Enorio, this initiative marks a significant step in advancing sustainable agriculture and waste
management practices in the local community.

The program began with an inspiring opening address delivered by CTU Barili Campus Director,
Dr. Romeo C. Lepiten, followed by a Statement of Purpose shared by Subang President Peter
John C. Enorio, who emphasized the importance of empowering farmers with knowledge and
tools for microbial composting. Adding support to the event was the presence of Dr. Maria Lima
D. Pascual, Dean of the College of Agriculture, Food Science, Agribusiness, and Development
Communications, who expressed her support for this milestone initiative.

Participants then proceeded to the Materials Recovery and Microbial Composting Facility, where
two technical sessions and live demonstrations took place:

facilitated by Dr. Danny E. Carabio, RGO Director.

The afternoon session began with an open forum, providing participants the opportunity to clarify
their questions and exchange insights on composting techniques and equipment usage.
A key highlight of the event was the Pledge of Commitment, administered by the Punong
Barangay of Kalubihan, Hon. Rebecca S. Barbac. This was followed by the Ceremonial Signing
of the Pledge of Commitment by participants, facilitators, speakers, and stakeholdersโ€”
demonstrating their shared dedication to promoting environmentally responsible farming
practices.

The event concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Cebu
Technological University โ€“ Barili Campus, represented by Dr. Romeo C. Lepiten, and the
Barangay Council of Kalubihan, represented by Hon. Rebecca S. Barbac. The MOA formalizes
the collaboration to advance microbial composting initiatives in the barangay.

As a token of appreciation and to further encourage sustainable practices, participants received
seed compost as a starter agent for home-based microbial composting and gift packs, distributed
before the closing remarks delivered by Dr. Carabio.

This successful event underscores the collective commitment of CTU-Barili Campus, the
Barangay Council of Kalubihan, and Subang – Cebu Technological University Chapter in fostering
sustainable agricultural practices and community empowerment. With the invaluable support of
university leaders like Dr. Maria Lima D. Pascual and Dr. Romeo C. Lepiten, this initiative
highlights the universityโ€™s dedication to environmental stewardship and grassroots development.
