Cebu Technological University-Naga Extension Campus proudly concluded its transformative extension initiative, Paglaum sa Tribung Ati-hanon: Literacy and Technical Training Program, held from September 30 to December 9, 2023. This program focused on uplifting the lives of the ATI community in Sitio Buyo, Brgy. South Poblacion, City of Naga, Cebu, through meaningful education and skills training.

Under the leadership of Dr. Roselyn T. Bustos, spearheading the Literacy Program Ang Akong Masulti Akong Masuwat, and JD Cape Beverlyn Genobiagon, driving the Technical Program Yawe sa Kaugmaon, the project showcased a deep commitment to fostering social responsibility. Alongside Dr. Bustos and JD Genobiagon, the dedicated extension team is comprised of faculty members, including Dr. Glenn Trinidad, Dr. Emelyn Jungoy, Ms. Rumuela Wong, Ms. Rennelie Panzo, Ms. Maria Domnena Anog, Mr. Jasmel Lastimosa, and Ms. Jerah Jane Delfinoโ€”supported by BEED student volunteers from 3B and 3C.

The initiative provided the ATI beneficiaries with foundational literacy training in reading, writing, and speaking, coupled with technical skills in handicraft making. This dual approach not only addressed educational gaps but also empowered participants to create sustainable livelihood opportunities, demonstrating CTU-Naga’s commitment to real-world impact. Through enhanced literacy and handicraft skills, the program paved the way for families to augment their income and secure a brighter future.

The culmination of the program on December 16, 2023, was a celebration of progress and hope. It featured a heartfelt closing ceremony, during which food packs were distributed to the beneficiaries and their families. Additionally, ceiling fan and clothing donations were given to ATI tribe children, underscoring the project’s dedication to holistic community upliftment.

By equipping marginalized communities with essential skills and fostering a culture of empowerment, CTU-Naga has set a commendable example of how academic institutions can bridge social divides and create meaningful change. The Paglaum sa Tribung Ati-Hanon project is a testament to the power of education and technical training in driving sustainable development and nurturing resilient, self-reliant communities./UPO
