The Cebu Technological University (CTU) Naga Extension Campus successfully concluded Paglaum sa Tribung Atihanon: Literacy Program Phase 2 on December 14, 2024, at Sitio Buyo, South Poblacion, City of Naga, Cebu. This initiative reflects the university’s commitment to empowering indigenous communities by preserving their culture while equipping them with the tools for a sustainable future.

Dr. Roselyn T. Bustos, project leader, emphasized the program’s primary aim to enhancing the literacy skills of ATI children as a foundation for a brighter tomorrow. Inspired by Dr. Jose Rizalโ€™s belief that โ€œThe youth is the hope of the fatherland,โ€ Dr. Bustos highlighted that investing in education for the younger generation can transform lives and create ripples of progress within their community.

The project received unwavering support from the CTU administration, with special acknowledgment to CTU Naga Campus Director, Atty. Marvey A. Ocampo and the Extension Director, Dr. Glenn Trinidad, whose guidance and encouragement significantly contributed to the success of the initiative. Their leadership underscored the university’s dedication to extending its mission beyond academic walls and into the heart of the community.

Together with team membersโ€”Dr. Emelyn E. Jungoy, Ms. Rennelie C. Panzo, Ms. Rumuela L. Wong, and BEED student facilitatorsโ€”the project exceeded expectations, reaching over 40 Ati children, surpassing the original target of 30 participants. Mrs. Lilia Sanger, the chieftain of the tribe, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the teamโ€™s dedication and unwavering support in uplifting their community. The program culminated in a heart warming celebration where certificates, school supplies, and food packs were distributed to the children. Beyond these tangible benefits, the event symbolized hope, empowerment, and a step towards a more sustainable future where education and cultural preservation go hand in hand.

CTU Naga Extension Campus remains steadfast in its mission to make a meaningful difference in the lives of its beneficiaries, ensuring that the ATI tribe thrives not only today but for generations to come./UIMPO
