The Colleges of Arts, Sciences, and Education of Cebu Technological University (CTU) participated in the 3rd National Sustainability Conference 2024, along with other higher education institutions (HEIs), government agencies, and communities of practice, to discuss and explore various and comprehensive ways of fostering a sustainable and progressive Philippines.
This initiative was led by the KaLambuan 7 (Kaugmaon sa Lambuang Siyete), the Regional Consortium of Futures Thinking of State Universities and Colleges of Central Visayas (CTU, CNU, NORSU, SSC, BISU) of Region VII, in partnership with Philippine Association of Research Managers, Inc. (PHILARM), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Science and Technology Region 7 (DOST-7), Philippine Agriculture & Fisheries Biotechnology Program, Philippine Carabao Center, National Academy of Science and Technology, Outstanding Young Scientists, Inc., and AltPayNet Corp.
The conference commenced from November 25 to 27, 2024, at CTU-Danao campus-Sabang, Danao City, Cebu, which bears this year’s theme “Sustainable Futures and Innovation for the New Philippines (Bagong Pilipinas).”
In line with promoting the importance of sustainability in the Philippines’ HEIs and government agencies, this annual event underscored the following conference clusters with distinct areas: Agri-Fisheries and Food Systems Conference held on November 13-15, 2024, at CTU-Carmen campus; Engineering and Technology Conference held on November 18-20, 2024, at Negros Oriental State University (NorSU); and Arts, Sciences, and Education Conference at CTU-Danao campus.
Partaking in this event were CTU key officials, namely University President Dr. Joseph C. Pepito, represented by Dr. Rose Mary L. Almacen, Vice President for Student Affairs; Dr. Adrian P. Ybaรฑez, VP for Research and Development/Sustainability Summits Overall Chairperson; Dr. Anesito L. Cutillas, Summit Chair; and Dr. Roselyn Gonzales, CTU-Danao campus.
During the three-day summit at CTU-Danao, the keynote speakers were Dr. Evelyn Nacario-Castro, Assistant Regional Director, NEDA; Dr. Jeffrey V. Ocay, Campus Director, Eastern Visayas State University-Ormoc Campus; and Dr. Christopher Ryan B. Maboloc, Associate Professor Philosophy, Ateneo de Davao University. As esteemed speakers, they were given certificates of recognition. Meanwhile, on the third day, Dr. Cristie Ann L. Jaca of the College of Education, CTU-Main, presented her GAA Funded 2023 research titled “Training Needs Assessment and Development of Online Instructional Materials for Education for Sustainable Development.”
This 3rd National Sustainability Conference sought to tackle sustainability initiatives and contribute to developing a better sustainable country.
