Abellana National School hosted a 5-day INSET titled “Innovative Pathways to 21st Century Education: Empowering Learning Through Engaging, Versatile Assessment and Teaching Excellence,” featuring Dr. Roselyn Bustos, University Director for Instructional Materials and Publication at Cebu Technological University, as the keynote resource speaker on November 25-26, 2024.

Dr. Bustos illuminated pathways for sustainable development in education by focusing on pedagogical innovation and adaptability. Her presentation, “21st Century Instruction,” engaged four clusters of diverse faculty-participants through interactive discussions centered on the 7Cs of 21st Century Learning: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, computing and ICT literacy, cross-cultural understanding, and career and learning self-reliance.

Highlighting sustainability, Dr. Bustos encouraged educators to embrace lifelong learning, adaptability, and inclusivity to address the challenges of a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) world. She underscored the importance of cultivating teaching practices that prepare students for dynamic global opportunities, contributing to SDG 4’s mission of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education.

The INSET program, accredited by the Professional Regulatory Commission, provided an additional benefit by enabling participants to use their certificates for PRC license renewal. This tangible outcome reinforces the dual impact of enhancing teacher capacity while supporting their professional growth./UIMPO
