Cebu Technological University Daanbantayan Campus has completed its groundbreaking GAA-funded research, “Assessment of Pain Management Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices among Senior Fishermen.” Conducted from September to November 2024, the study surveyed 270 elderly fisherfolk across Kinatarcan, Santa Fe Bantayan, Malapascua, and Carnaza to address chronic pain challenges unique to this physically demanding occupation.

Led by Dr. Nikkithea Beduya with her teamโ€”Dr. Hannibal Layon, Prof. Arnie Trangia, and Dr. Tsereyl Verdidaโ€”the study highlights the need for targeted health education to empower elderly fishermen in managing pain and improving their quality of life. Special thanks are extended to the supportive barangay captains, including Hon. Tito J. Mondejar, Hon. Marcos B. Gilbuena, Hon. Lemuel Daรฑo, and Hon. Roquita Rosell, for their invaluable assistance.

The research, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3, sets the stage for Phase Two, focusing on actionable solutions to help these fishermen live healthier, pain-free lives. This initiative bridges critical gaps in healthcare access, offering hope for improved well-being in marginalized communities.
