In line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Guidance Office-Evening Program conducted a dynamic and meaningful Career Seminar for fourth-year evening students on November 21, 2024, with over 264 students actively participating. Led by the enthusiastic Guidance Office staff—Dr. Nimfa L. Batiancila, Ms. Lucy Marie Raven Mahilum, Mr. Denricks Tecson, and Mr. Arnel Rapana—this seminar was designed to provide students with tips on the importance of sound decision-making through short activities that may help enhance their conduct, fostering positive behavioral habits and, ultimately, cultivating admirable professional behavior in the future world of work.
The seminar highlighted key topics aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing social well-being and equality in professional settings. The session on Integrity in Decision-Making and Professional Conduct stressed the importance of ethical behavior in building trust and accountability, both of which are essential for career growth and leadership. Integrity in the workplace not only strengthens institutions but also opens doors for professional advancement, supporting SDG 16, which promotes peace, justice, and strong institutions.
The talk on Republic Act 7877: Anti-Sexual Harassment focused on creating safe and respectful work environments, contributing to SDG 5, Gender Equality, by empowering individuals to address and prevent harassment. A workplace that prioritizes gender equality fosters inclusivity and productivity, benefiting both individuals and organizations.
The Techno-Eskaparte: A Self-Confidence Workshop empowered student to navigate the professional world with resilience and self-assurance, aligning with SDG 4, Quality Education. However, based on our observations, the evening participants lacked the drive to perform in public, which could prevent them from overcoming their fears, expectations, and unhealthy perceptions of themselves. Without the motivation to try, the development of self-confidence would not be possible.
This seminar was more than just career preparation; it was an investment in the students’ personal and professional growth. By focusing on core values like integrity, respect, and confidence, the Guidance Office-Evening Program ensured that these fourth-year students were not only prepared for the workforce but also equipped to lead with integrity and make a significant impact in their careers and communities. Although the seminar was conducted once every semester, the Guidance Office-Evening Program continues to empower students by providing them with the essential tools for success, making this seminar a significant step toward building the leaders of tomorrow.
