Cebu Technological University (CTU) hosted the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Zonal Conference Program today, February 20, bringing together esteemed guests, researchers, and innovators across the Visayas region.
Attendees engaged in noteworthy discussions and presentations, exploring advanced research and technologies that address global challenges and uplift the lives of many.
Dr. Napoleon K. Juanillo, Jr., Assistant Secretary for Technology Transfer, Communications, and Commercialization, presented the DOST TechTransfer and Commercialization Flagship Programs. One of the DOST’s programs is the Program PROPEL- a “dynamic commercialization arm, dedicated to transforming groundbreaking science and technology innovations into thriving global enterprises.” Also, the conference featured other key initiatives: STI4SDGs and PAGTANAW2050: Foresight Development Program.
CTU President Dr. Joseph C. Pepito said during his speech that “by fostering collaboration among institutions, government agencies, and of courseโฆthe private sectors, we can bridge the gap.” He also emphasized the significance of ensuring technological advancements contribute directly to societal progress.
Among the esteemed guests were DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr., Regional Directors Engr. Jesus F. Zamora Jr., from DOST VII, and Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga, from DOST VI, and Councilor Edgardo “Jaypee” Labella II, who represented Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia of Cebu City.
The presentation and Q&A sessions on Semiconductors, Electric Vehicles, and Artificial Intelligence were led by Technology Advocate Mr. Glenn Quiro of the Apl.de.Ap Foundation, and Dr. John Anthony Jose, Associate Professor of De La Salle University.
The DOST Zonal Conference Program served as a platform for stakeholders to share their knowledge, expertise, and top practices in boosting collaborations and innovation, driving sustainable development and national progress.
