The Cebu Technological University (CTU)-Barili Campus held its 3rd Studentsโ Research Congress on April 30, 2025, bringing together ten student researchers from various colleges with studies that addressed critical food security, education, and technology needs.
Ultimately, only three student researchers were awarded the best research from each category: Food and Agriculture, Innovation and Technology, and Learning and Education.
Rafael P. Mata, a fourth-year BS Food Technology student, won the best research award for the Food and Agriculture category with his research on Calamansi (Citrofortunella microcarpa) peel-derived pectin as a functional ingredient in ice cream. Meanwhile, Rendyl Joseph F. Labastida, senior BS Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, was awarded the best research for the Innovation and Technology with his research on the Design and Analysis of Prototype Hydraulic Ram Pump.
For the Learning and Education category, BSEd English fourth-year student, Michael John M. Caparida, was given the research for his study on Computer-aided Instruction in English Language Learning.
The esteemed faculty researchers from the campus, composed of Dr. Jeremy P. Mondejar, the campus Research and Development Director; Mr. Julius C. Medellin, CAFBC Faculty; Dr. Daisy L. Obiso, CoEd Faculty; Ms. Lorelie Q. Escabal, CAFBC Faculty; and Mr. Audie L. Cherry, a visiting scholar from Clemson University, served as judges during the research congress.
The 3rd Studentsโ Research Congress was organized by the Research and Development Office, with the support of the Future Science and Technology Leaders of the Philippines (FSTLP) and Subang. The event was a collaborative effort that strengthened the universityโs commitment to real-world impact and academic excellence.
