In a bid to elevate skills training programs and assessments for ‘hablon’ weaving and preserve its cultural heritage, representatives from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-7 and Cebu Technological University (CTU) met for a collaborative discussion at the President’s Office Conference Room today.
CTU, in collaboration with TESDA 7, headed by Regional Director Gamaliel B. Vicente, Jr. CESO III, ASEAN Eng. and his team, seeks to foster hablon’s cultural preservation, community development, sustainable livelihoods, and income among its students, teachers, and local weavers.
Hablon is a community-based project that promotes and sustains the traditional handloom weaving practices in Argao, Cebu. CTU-Argao, a lead assessor, has been at the forefront of promoting the Hablon industry through its community extension projects, enhancing and supporting local weaver’s life and economic well-being.
In partnership with TESDA 7, University President Dr. Joseph C. Pepito voiced his commitment and support to nurturing a sustainable future for hablon weaving and its long-term benefits for both the local community and CTU.
Further discussion centered on the acquisition of community-based trainers, micro-credentialing programs, SDG-aligned projects, application to Mobile Training Programs (MPTs), as well as the
certification and registration of CTU-Argao as a training provider, in which the training will be funded by TESDA.
Present at this gathering were CTU key officials, including Dr. Ramel C. Genobiagon, vice president for Administration and Finance; Dr. Romeo P. Montencillo, VP for Student Affairs; and Dr. Reylan G. Capuno, VP for Academic Affairs. CTU-Argao representatives were Dr. Lynnette Matea S. Camello and Dr. Crysali Therese R. Dayaganon, while the TESDA team comprised Ms. Jocelyn V. Cabahug and Cheyenne S. Soon.
