Cebu Technological University (CTU) finally kicked off the ‘Visayas Island Seminar On PAGTANAW 2050,’ the first interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary project developing a Philippine-focused Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Foresight and Strategic Plan.

The event, co-organized by the Philippine Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology (PhilAAST) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-7), serves as a platform for STI stakeholders in Visayas to engage and contribute to implementing the PAGTANAW 2025 National Foresight and Strategic Plan.

Featured speakers and officials were Prof. Fortunato T. Dela Peรฑa, PhilAAST President and former DOST Secretary; Dr. Tristan L. Abando, OIC-Regional Director of DOST-7; Dr. Danilo Jaque, Hydronet Consultants; Engr. Augusto Reynes, CEAAPI President; Archt. Joseph Michael Espina, Former Head of the Cebu City Planning and Development Office; and ASec. Diana L. Ignacio, Assistant Secretary for Administrative and Legal Affairs, DOST.

Representing CTU President Dr. Joseph C. Pepito was Dr. Pet Roey L. Pascual, Vice President for Research and Development. Dr. Jonathan C. Maglasang, CTU-COE Professor; Dr. Hana Astrid Canseco-Tuรฑacao, CTU-COE Research Director; and Mr. Peter John C. Enorio, SSG President from CTU-Barili, also participated in the event.

Participants at the 74th PhilAAST Annual Convention came from various sectors, such as government, private sector, higher education institutions (HEIs), research institutions, NGOs, civic organizations, students, and young professionals.

The discussion stressed key topics, issues, and solutions, including advocating for ‘smart islands’ through LGU-academe-industry collaboration guided by PAGTANAW 2050, proposing practical and innovative solutions for energy security, climate-resilient infrastructure, inclusive transit, blue economy, food security, and prioritizing rural and island communities in energy and water transitions, among others.

Through this gathering, STI strategies will be implemented with a strong regional foundation and national alignment.
