Cebu Technological University (CTU) spearheads a four-day Gender and Development Summit, aimed at promoting gender equality, reducing gender stereotypes, and addressing gender-based disparities in the university and community, held at a hotel in Mandaue City from August 4 to 7, 2025.

“The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) condemns all forms gender based violence in public spaces, workplace, educational and training institutions as well in the online realm…these are utterly inhumane, violation of human rights, and are punishable under our laws,” stated by resource speaker Ms. Maria Enriquita Myrel Siason, member of National GAD Resource Pool from PCW.

Day 1 sessions focused on the policy imperatives of GAD, basic GAD concepts, the roles and functions of the GAD focal point system, the GFPS functionality assessment tool, as well as reporting and an open forum among participants.

During Day 2, CTU President Dr. Joseph C. Pepito extended his support in this GAD initiative, stressing the essence of gender equality and inclusivity in the university.

Further discussions focused on the gender analysis and gender mainstreaming intervention at CTU Main, utilizing the GMEF checklists, action planning, and a workshop.

The gender responsive programming using the harmonized gender GAD guidelines (HGDG) tool, how to use the HGDG checklists, GAD planning and budgeting, review and critiquing of the current GBP, and another action planning, were tackled on days 3 and 4.

Led by GAD OIC-University Director Ms. Mary Jane C. Sim, the four-day activity brought together key officials, GAD chairpersons, planning and budget officers, HRMO personnel, faculty, and non-teaching staff from across campuses.

Overall, CTU’s gender-responsive initiatives seek to develop a more just and inclusive environment, foster respect and understanding, and provide a safe environment for all.
