In connection with the upcoming extension service activity organized by the Biodiversity, Environment, and Natural Resources Research Center (BENRC), known as CTU Research and Innovation for Sustainable Ecosystem (RISE) with Breadfruit Solutions in Barangay Lamacan, Argao, both parties signed a Memorandum of Agreement on August 26, 2025.
Present during the MOA signing were Punong Barangay Kirsten Audrey F. Sarmago, Barangay Secretary Desiree Joy S. Elevera, BHW President Miguelita S. Gebolingo, Child and Development Worker Jemmalyn G. Tampo, and BENRC science research assistants Marcelina S. Ricaborda and John Gabriel A. Fortuna.
The training on food processing using breadfruit will commence on September 10 to 11, 2025, with participants including out-of-school youth, womenโs groups, and the farmersโ association from the barangay.
This outreach initiative marks the Centerโs fourth destination for the CTU RISE with Breadfruit Solutions campaign, which began in Camotes Island and Alegria, Cebu, in 2024, followed by Bantayan Island in June of this year.
Aiming to promote this underutilized fruit, the Center is committed to expanding the campaign throughout Central Visayas, particularly now that the requested funding for the DOST-supported project, โInventory and Morphometric Characterization of Breadfruit Varieties in Cebu,โ has been released./ Melvin T.
