Cebu Technological University–Main Campus, through its College of Education (COED), in partnership with Cebu Caritas, Inc., concluded on September 14 the second phase of its GAA-funded ESKOLAR community extension project, a capacity-building program designed to empower fifty working scholars.
From May to September 2025, the project implemented a 40-hour training program designed to support Cebu Caritas scholars—enrolled in various higher education institutions across Cebu Province—in developing a growth mindset, building confidence in overcoming challenges, and practicing honest self-assessment.
Cebu Caritas scholars are underprivileged but determined youth supported through the Catholic Church’s Youth Servant Leadership and Education Program (YSLEP), which provides them with financial and educational aid to pursue college or vocational degrees, and serves as role models and changemakers in their local communities.
The project was implemented by selected faculty members from COED’s curricular programs, including the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd), Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Values Education, and the Master in Education/Doctor of Development Education (Dev.Ed.D.) in Guidance and Counseling.
Led by Dr. Melona Deguma, ESKOLAR Project Team Member and COED faculty member, the training emphasized resilience and adaptability, underscoring CTU’s commitment to preparing scholars for meaningful contributions in their communities and beyond.
