Dr. Raamah C. Rosales, a professor at Cebu Technological University (CTU), shared his insights on the conservation of marine biodiversity in the Philippines during a presentation on September 15 at Guangxi University of Finance and Economics (GUFE) in Nanning, Guangxi, China.
He highlighted one of the key policies commonly implemented in the Philippines to protect marine biodiversity: the declaration and establishment of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).
“When we establish marine protected areas, we need to understand first their ecological function. So, in the Philippines, we try to determine areas which has ecological function locally and also at the global stage,” Dr. Rosales said.
Dr. Rosales is a science researcher focusing on conservation biology. Most of his research projects aim to strengthen ecological integrity for the sustainability of ecosystem services.
Dr. Rhodora G. Magan, the University Director for Internationalization and ASEAN Integration (IAI) and Presidential Strategist for Global Discourse Leadership, also participated in high-level talks at GUFE.
Discussions centered on building a strong foundation for significant progress in student and faculty exchange, and most notably, laid the groundwork for a research hub focused on maritime innovation, automation, and data science.
The participation of the two professors further positions CTU as a budding force in global technology and research excellence.
