CTU extends Psychological First Aid to Tuburan and Tabuelan Campuses after Northern Cebu Quake

Following the recent earthquake that struck northern Cebu, Cebu Technological University (CTU) extended its Psychological First Aid (PFA) program to students and employees from the Tuburan and Tabuelan campuses on October 17, 2025, as part of the university’s ongoing psychosocial support efforts for affected communities.

Held at CTU Tuburan, the initiative created a nurturing space for individuals to reflect, recover, and regain emotional stability, with a total of 91 participants, including 62 employees, 25 students, and 4 children joining the session.

The facilitators were registered psychometricians and guidance counselors from different campuses, namely Michelle Trangia, Maria Ellen Alcomendras, Purity Mata, Angele Villamor, Gelly Ann Cabarles, Jezreel Buot, Mildred Alejandrino, Roselet Legados, Rosemarie Abayon, and Virna Lyn Porte.

After the PFA session, relief goods were distributed to participants, providing mental health support and addressing the immediate needs of those affected. Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials on PFA and coping strategies after a disaster were also distributed, produced by the Development Communication professors of CTU.

Along with those from earlier sessions, the team had previously conducted the first wave on October 8, 2025, at CTU Tabogon, CTU San Remigio, and CTU Daanbantayan. Meanwhile, on October 10, they also held PFA sessions for survivors at CTU Danao Campus, alongside training for teachers and employees to equip them in facilitating localized PFA efforts.

The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs mainly organized this program.

Through these meaningful initiatives, the university reinforces its proactive stance on mental health and disaster response.
