European university eyes SE Asia growth, names CTU key ally

Germany’s Aalen University is strategically expanding its presence in Southeast Asia, naming Cebu Technological University (CTU) a pivotal partner in the region. The landmark deal, set for formal signing on November 10 during CTU’s founding anniversary, signals Aalen’s commitment to deepening academic collaboration, research innovation, and student and faculty exchange in one of the world’s fastest-growing education hubs.

Following high-level talks between AU envoy Dr. Christian Koot and CTU Director Dr. Rhodora Magan, the partnership advances with Aalen pledging multi-platform funding to support joint programs.

AU’s rector, unable to travel to the Philippines, has pre-signed the agreement, authorizing Prof. Koot to represent Aalen at the ceremony. His early September visit to CTU was crucial in cementing ties, underscoring Aalen’s strong commitment even as Dr. Magan fulfilled international obligations in China.

Prof. Koot revealed that CTU was pre-selected as a priority partner in the Philippines after rigorous vetting of Southeast Asian universities. Key factors included CTU’s robust English-medium instruction, extensive 28-campus network, and strengths in technology and engineering.

Even before the ink dries, academic activities are underway: Prof. Koot will deliver lectures on Linear Programming and Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) to CTU Engineering and Technology students across campuses during anniversary week.

More than a ceremonial pact, the AU–CTU partnership unites two globally minded institutions with complementary strengths. Aalen is a top applied sciences university in Baden-Württemberg, leading in AI and electromobility. Its mission aligns perfectly with CTU’s vision to become a leading university in Southeast Asia, making this collaboration especially timely and impactful./Internationalization and ASEAN Integration
