Universidad de Cristóbal Colón (UCC) and Cebu Technological University (CTU) are edging closer to creating what will soon be the latter’s first official collaboration in Mexico. Leading to the final stage, both institutions have already made strong commitments to ensure the partnership gets off to a dynamic and mutually beneficial start.
One of the most generous gestures from UCC is its offer of unlimited seats for CTU exchange students, with a highly affordable estimated monthly cost of just 4,000 Mexican pesos (roughly PHP 13,000) to cover board and lodging. For CTU faculty engaging in short-term academic mobilities, UCC has also expressed willingness to waive lodging fees. Located in the culturally rich and coastal city of Veracruz, UCC is most certainly poised to captivate CTU students and faculty.
Mtra. Selma Ramón Marín, counterpart to Dr. Rhodora Magan, CTU Director of Internationalization and ASEAN Affairs (IAI), initiated the efforts and shared during her talk with Dr. Magan that she had long envisioned forming ties with a Southeast Asian institution—and that the engagement with CTU has brought that vision to life.
“This partnership is historic not only because it’s a first for CTU in Mexico,” said Dr. Magan in a statement to ICPA, “but because it represents a shared commitment to global learning, research, and cultural exchange with a university that mirrors many cultural motifs found in Cebu—owing to Spanish colonization, which brought with it strong Mexican influences. One example is the Galleon Trade, which connected Mexico and the Philippine islands, bringing goods, ideas, and culture from one side of the Pacific to the other.”
En route to officializing ties, early activities are already underway. One of the first will be Dr. Magan’s participation as a speaker at the UCC global forum—a symbolic and strategic move to launch the partnership through thought leadership. She will be joined by a panel of other vetted academics from UCC’s international partner network.
CTU faculty have also begun receiving information on lectureship platforms, with opportunities expected to open before the year ends.
Moreover, students and faculty have recently been asked to join UCC’s 1st International Conference on Financial Literacy. /Internationalization and ASEAN Integration
