Graduate programs in Guidance and Counseling at Cebu Technological University–Main Campus presented Project TINDUG BHW to the Municipality of Alcoy Committee on Health during its official hearing on November 13, a key step toward securing the committee’s endorsement to elevate the initiative into a municipal resolution for Sangguniang Bayan approval.
Project TINDUG BHW (Tawag Inisyatiba Pangalagad Inubanan ug Gugma alang sa mga BHWs), is a GAA‑funded, two‑year initiative to upskill Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) in mental health response and to institutionalize sustained community wellness efforts.
Dr. Jabin J. Deguma, program chair and project leader, led the presentation alongside the MA and PhD Guidance and Counseling faculty, including Dr. Melona C. Deguma, Dr. Allan Canillo, Dr. Vicente Igot, Dr. Michelle Talon, and Dr. Mario Pardillo.
Present at the hearing were Hon. Guia Romarate, COH chair, and Hon. Niño de los Santos, the sponsoring councilor.
Project proponents expressed optimism that committee approval will pave the way for a municipal ordinance that institutionalizes the program and secures long‑term support for mental health services and initiatives for BHWs and the wider community.
