CTU leads PaTeGAYON-6 to empower communities in cacao production

To strengthen community expertise in sustainable cacao production, Cebu Technological University-Main Campus conducted the sixth installment of its intercollegiate community extension project, Pagsagop sa Teknolohiya sa Grupong Alayon (PaTeGAYON)-6 Cacao, on December 1–5, 2025 at the Integrated Organic Farm Resort in Lamac, Pinamungajan, Cebu.

With the theme “Pagtinabangay sa Komunidad ug Unibersidad aron sa Maluntarong Kauswagan sa Cacao”, the project aimed to empower participants in cacao post-harvest technology, premium tableya making, cacao-inspired fluid art, cacao digital marketing strategies, Buetherapy, cacao foot spa, and cacao farm management. 

Funded under the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the program brought together 41 participants, comprising farmers, entrepreneurs, local government officials, farm owners, cacao technicians, tableya makers, and chocolate enthusiasts from the municipalities of Toledo, Pinamungajan, Tuburan, Asturias, and Balamban in Cebu province.

CTU resource speaker included Dr. Renissa S. Quiñones and Dr. Vicente J. Igot of the College of Education; Dr. Hubert G. Quiñones and Dr. Leahlou E. Narvios of the College of Management and Entrepreneurship; and Prof. Romeo C. Lanzaderas of the Graduate School.

Furthermore, the training emphasized science-based methods to enhance bean quality and increase farmers’ income. It provided participants with hands-on activities on cacao farming, post-harvest processing, and marketing strategies.

At the end of the training, participants produced handcrafted premium tableya, cacao-inspired artworks, wellness tips, and digital marketing platforms.

Cacao, a high-value crop in the Philippines, remains in strong demand in both local and international markets.
