CTU Main-COED culminates TInduG Phase 2, empowering BHWs as PFA Responders

The College of Education at Cebu Technological University–Main Campus culminated its community extension project “TInduG BHWs as PFA Responders (Phase 2)” on November 27, transforming abilities into selfless service among Barangay Health Workers of Brgy. Inoburan, City of Naga, Cebu.

Twenty‑three female Barangay Health Workers acquired essential competencies in Psychological First Aid (PFA), with the project implemented through the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd), Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Values Education, and the Graduate Programs in Guidance and Counseling.

The culminating session featured PFA scenario simulations that highlighted BHWs’ skills in recognizing distress, performing stabilization techniques, practicing active listening, and delivering culturally sensitive, ethical support.

Led by Project Leader Dr. Jabin Deguma and supported by a multidisciplinary team, the program delivered 64 hours of training from May to November 2025, enabling all participants to attain 100% proficiency in the project’s learning objectives.

As Cebu recovers from recent calamities, including the earthquake and Typhoon Tino, this community extension project stands as a timely response to the growing need for grassroots mental health support.

Through its strong collaboration with Brgy. Inoburan, CTU Main empowered BHWs to become reliable PFA responders capable of providing immediate psychological support in times of crisis.

With strengthened knowledge, enhanced empathy, and improved crisis-response skills, the BHWs now embody the spirit of “Tawag Inisyatiba, pangalagaD inUbanag Gugma,” ready to uplift and care for their community with compassion and resilience.

In collaboration with the Inoburan Barangay Council, led by Hon. Redgie Cabisarez, the extension initiative stands as a model of effective university-community partnership.

With this initiative, CTU affirms its unwavering commitment to transformative service, aligned with its vision of building empowered communities through education, health advocacy, and values‑based engagement.
