Founding Distancing-Free Mask (DFM) Project members were identified in yesterday’s gathering convened by Japan’s Gunma University (GU) Prof. Yusaku Fujii.
CTU academics Rommel Canencia (Carmen), Rosalito Juda Eboa (Danao), Michael Camello (Argao), Krystel Jane Ajias (Consolacion), Narcis Molero (Pinamungahan), and Charlesmagne Pasaje (Barili) made it to the event despite the looming typhoon. Each expressed a forward-looking stance in the opportunity afforded to them by CTU’s long-time research collaborator.
The DFM for Everyone Initiative is a collaborative project inhered in the alliance of GU and CTU, which the aforesaid individuals will act upon from here on.
Approximately 3,000 USD, said Dr. Fujii in a statement to IAI, is ready for the procurement of parts and tools in Japan, to be brought to CTU for prototype development. Previously, during his 5-month stay at CTU , he already purchased and left many materials and tools.
This time, with the group having been established, each member fabricates one standard DFM unit based on Dr. Fujii’s basic design (without controller).
The next stage of work requires each member to build and program one controller set using Arduino UNO R4 WiFi and the required power electronics. He’ll facilitate the intensive training in microcontroller programming and basic electronics.
Then each member should be able to create measurement-and-control-enabled DFM prototypes implementing their own.
Finally, the group will convert results into several journal papers and/or conference submissions.
Prof. Fujii shared in his talk yesterday how it’s necessary for the founding members to be equipped with the information on the project that, as he said, can “be the best solution” to prevent a lockdown (should another outbreak like COVID 19 happen).
CTU faculty and students who may want to know more about the project are encouraged to attend in an echo seminar at CTU main on Dec. 11th .
Special panelist Prof. Chen-Hua Hsueh of Feng Chia University (Taiwan) also joined yesterday’s meeting, articulating her takes on the project. She layered the topic by extending the PAPR’s utility to countries like India whose air quality is detrimental to one’s health.
Like Prof. Hsueh, CTU Prof. Ronald Galindo has also worked with Prof. Fujii to further the DFM trajectory. He’s been facilitating the latter’s engagements at CTU since the outbreak happened a couple of years back./Internationalization and ASEAN Integration
