The Learning Resource Center at Cebu Technological University-Main Campus became a hub of literary and environmental reflection as it hosted the book launching and literary exhibit of The Climate Crisis in 5-7-5 Syllables: A Haiku Anthology, on December 12, 2025.
Dr. Cristie Ann L. Jaca penned and presented an anthology of haiku on climate change, highlighting themes of hope, loss, resilience, and renewal.
She was joined by University Librarian Morena E. Carlos and Dr. Raymond C. Espina, Dean of the College of Education, during the unveiling ceremony.
In her author talk, Dr. Jaca discussed the writing process and inspirations, the challenge of distilling crisis into the 5-7-5 syllabic form, and her vision for poetry in education and community-based environmental learning.
“The poetry writing of my BSEd English students not only honed their literary creativity but also transformed them into ecological stewards, reminding them as future educators of the irreplaceable human touch in sustainability discourse,” Dr. Jaca said.
Contributing authors from the Bachelor of Secondary Education–English, including Raven Marie Sacaday, Marinela Cortez, Maricar Dinolan, Chicel Joy F. Obenieta, Babyclaire G. Estrebello, John Dave P. Abing, Christian B. Rico, Azira Kate Ylaran, Rhea Mae D. Abiar, and Athea Shanine B. Velez, read their personal haiku before the audience.
Further, intermission performances featured spoken word poetry by Christy Ejem and a musical number by Krystl Marie Angeles.
Dr. Mary Jane C. Sim, University Director for Gender and Development, also attended the event and spoke on CTU’s gender‑responsive commitment to education and social responsibility.
The launch of the Haiku Anthology on Climate Crisis affirmed the university’s ongoing pursuit of climate‑responsive education that links creative expression with sustainability advocacy.
