CTU-Main equips students with skills to manage burnout and succeed in college

Cebu Technological University–Main Campus (CTU-Main) conducted a series of student workshops on January 21 at the Centennial Building, with simultaneous online streaming, to strengthen resilience, motivation, and academic success strategies among students.

The activity brought together first-year and third-year Day Program students from the College of Education, College of Computer, Information and Communication Technology, College of Engineering, College of Marketing and Entrepreneurship, College of Technology, and College of Arts and Sciences.

With the theme ‘Thriving in Transition: Strengthening College Resilience and Decision-Making Skills Workshop’, the morning session engaged first-year students, equipping them with vital resilience skills for a smooth transition into college life, complemented by practical decision-making strategies.

At the start of the second semester, Dr. Pet Roey L. Pascual, OIC University President, expressed support for students, highlighting CTU’s commitment to their holistic growth.

“Be assured that we will be here for you both for your academic and emotional growth while you are with us,” said Dr. Pascual.

Meanwhile, Dr. Gregorio P. Pajaron Jr., CTU Main Campus Director, emphasized the importance of resilience, sound decision-making, and career preparedness during the formative college years.

“It is significant to develop resilience and sound decision-making capabilities while you are still freshmen in college, as this is a time filled with transformations, challenges, and opportunities,” Dr. Pajaron said.

The session addressed common academic, emotional, and social challenges encountered by first-year students, presenting coping mechanisms such as stress management, prioritization of academic responsibilities, problem-solving, and goal-setting to support effective adaptation to college demands.

The afternoon session, anchored on the theme “Ignited Minds: Your Guide to Beating Burnout and Achieving Academic Success,’ sought to help third-year students prevent burnout, build resilience, and strengthen their path toward academic success.

In her message, Arch. Ann Frances P. Cabigon, Dean of the Student Affairs Office, emphasized the broader meaning of academic success.

“Academic success at CTU is not just about the highest general weighted average (GWA); it is about the mental stamina to reach graduation and enter your workforce with your health intact,” Arch. Cabigon stated.

The activity was organized by the CTU-Main Guidance Services Center–Day Program, led by Dr. Josephine A. Villa, Guidance Services Specialist, with the support of guidance counselors and associates from the different colleges.

CTU’s recent workshop highlighted the university’s commitment to enhancing student welfare and resilience while promoting academic excellence.
